Developers for the iPhone platform have been warned by Apple to make sure that their applications are compatible with version 3.0 of the manufacturer's mobile system or face removal.
Apple sent an email to developers on the 7th of May saying that "all submissions to the App Store will be reviewed on the latest beta of iPhone OS 3.0 in preparation for the millions of iPhone and iPod Touch customers move to iPhone OS 3.0 this summer" further adding that "If your app submission is not compatible with iPhone OS 3.0, it will not be approved."
iPhone OS 3.0 will be released in a few weeks' time and tens of thousands of developers have already laid their hands on the it. The new operating system will include parental controls which will prevent user access to applications if a user is under a certain age. But it is the wealth of APIs - more than 1000 - that will bring joy and happiness to the developers.
More than 25,000 applications have been created for the iPhone and have attracted more than one billion downloads. The company appears to be putting application compatibility at the top of its priority list and in doing so will seek to reduce any incompatibilities that have affected other platforms in the past.
