  • Windows 7 Will Be Released Before End of 2009 Says Microsoft

11 May, 2009, by Desire Athow

Software behemoth Microsoft, has that it will be releasing Windows 7, the long awaited successor to Vista, before the end of the year.

Bill Veghte, senior vice president of the Windows Business at Microsoft, said in his keynote speech at Microsoft's TechEd North America 2009 conference, that "Windows 7 is tracking well for holiday availability".

The company later issued a statement saying that "anticipating that the next version of its client operating system, Windows 7, will be available to customers in time for the holiday shopping season."

This confirms past rumours that Microsoft was going to release Windows 7 in 2009, well before the September 2010 time frame and more than three years after Vista appeared.

Earlier in May, Acer's Vice President, Massimo D'Angelo, let slipped an October 23rd release date for Windows 7, adding that the Taiwanese giant would be selling preloaded machines by this date.

Windows Server 2008 R2 will also be made available at the same time, which will allow Microsoft to concentrate on its next big product launch, Microsoft Office 2010 as well as the successors to Windows 7, Windows 8 and 9.

Last week, Microsoft released the almost-finished version of Windows 7, otherwise known as Windows 7 Release Candidate and feedback from the testing community have been overwhelming positive. It prompted some to say that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been in the first place; a stable operating system that is light on resources and compatible.
