In an attempt to retain more visitors to its website, AOL has introduced a new version of its homepage which is designed to allow its user to access their email accounts on other platforms such as Gmail and Hotmail without having to move away from the page.
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Dana Dunne, who heads AOL in Europe, mentioned "The reinvented homepage offers a convenient, one-stop destination where users can access everything they love on the web within just a few clicks."
Apart from allowing users to access their email, the new homepage also facilitates them in accessing popular social networking sites like Facebook and seamlessly interact with their friends without making the effort to individually sign in with each social networking service separately.
With social networking sites figuring amongst the most frequented websites on the internet, the introduction of the revamped homepage comes across as a well thought out move.
On first look the new homepage does look impressive and many believe that it is likely to prove rather beneficial to some of its users but how much it would help AOL in retaining its users to stick to its website for a longer period is difficult to guess.
