  • Gmail Goes Down Again As Users Rile Against Service

08 May, 2009, by Desire Athow

It seems that Gmail, the popular email service from Google has suffered yet another outage today with users across the world voicing their inability to access the service.

Many users complained that when they attempted to access Gmail, they were greeted with a message which typically stated “We're sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes.”

Incidentally some user also reported that their POP3 and IMAP access was also unavailable and even Google Apps which is integrated with Gmail was unresponsive.

Outages were reported all across the globe and it has brought back memories of the outages that Gmail suffered in February this year; at that time the Google had claimed that one it data centers failed to take up the extra load when one of its data center was taken off for routine maintenance.

Though Gmail continues to remain immensely popular with web users, such outages do not augur well for an organization which is known for its service excellence and one can only hope that engineers at Google make effort to improve the reliability of the service so that such incidents can be avoided in future.
