  • Mobile Broadband Laptop Deals More Affordable Than Cappucinos & BT

14 June, 2009, by Desire Athow

Mobile phone company 3 has slashed the price of its cheapest laptop plus mobile broadband deal to a mere £22.50, a deal made sweeter by the fact that potential customers get a not-insignificant 15GB data allowance.

The standalone data package costs £15 per month on its own, which means that the laptop adds another £7.50 per month or a rather affordable 25p per day.

That's equivalent to buying the Sun newspaper everyday or as broadband comparison website, top 10 broadband puts it, cheaper than purchasing a Cappucino per week.

The netbook included in the deal is an Acer Aspire 150b and is not half as bad as the price would imply. Sure the 8.9-inch screen might be a little tight but weighing only 1kg, it packs a lot of punch.

It has a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, a 160GB hard disk drive, a screen resolution of 1044x700 pixels, a built in webcam, a card reader, WiFi and most importantly, Windows XP Home.

The 15GB data allowance is significantly more than BT's own Option 1 package which has a mere 10GB and costs a whopping £15.65 a month excluding line rental. That might be to some extent, the tipping point when it comes to internet access.

Interestingly, the same laptop costs £239 at Tesco Direct meaning that you stand at saying £59 over the two year period you will be tied in a contract with 3 (the laptop costs £180 over 24 months).

Jessica McArdle, marketing manager at Top 10 Broadband, said “A price point of £22.50 a month for a laptop and 15Gb of mobile broadband means that even in these troubled times, many people can afford to own a great laptop simply by making some small sacrifices. 3’s deal is a perfect offer for students or for anyone who wants to spread the cost of a laptop purchase.”
