  • Microsoft Hohm Promises To Reduce Energy Consumption

25 June, 2009, by Desire Athow

Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday unleashed a new innovative online service that enables consumers to track their household energy usage and offers handy ways to bring their energy consumption down.

The new service, codenamed as “Hohm”, is available in beta for the users in the US at microsoft-hohm.com, and allows users "better understand their energy usage, get recommendations and start saving money”, the software giant said.

This incredible online application employs an advanced analytics engine, designed by the US Department of Energy in collaboration with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, to put forth cost-effective ideas and other useful feedback on the basis of information that consumers provide.

Microsoft has already been selling solutions to the energy industry since years, and now it is aiming at the household power domain as weakening economy pushed consumers to figure out new ways to save money and the government is set to make the use of renewable energy resources and energy efficiency methods mandatory.
