News that Nokia was going to launch a mobile computer first emerged back in February 2009 when Nokia's CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has confirmed that the company will be manufacturing something along those lines.
Then came the news that Nokia was in talks with ECS over a potential Netbook deal.
(ed: why not read 5 Reasons Why Nokia's Laptops Will Rule which we wrote back in February).
We've drawn up a list of things that you might want to know about Nokia's Booklet 3G and which make particularly attractive.
(1) Available mainly/exclusively through networks
One of the main reasons why Nokia's Booklet 3G is going to be popular is because it will be widely available on most networks around UK, Europe and down to the developing countries. As we said six months ago, "the handset manufacturer is uniquely placed to sell mobile computers to people on all five continents".
Nokia's clout also means that it will get the netbooks for cheap and may easily undercut the current cheapest laptop package, Three's Acer Aspire offer at £17.50 per month for two years.
(2) HD Ready = 1280x720 pixels at least
The Booklet 3G will be HD Ready. It has an HDMI output and is likely to offer at least 1280x720 pixels on its 10.1-inch screen, the lowest screen resolution to qualify as a HD Ready device.
Most other netbooks come with a screen resolution of 1024x600. However, this is speculative and Nokia might say instead that HD ready applies only to the HDMI output and not to the screen content.
(3) Classy building material and finish
The netbook is made up of aluminium and has a glossy finish that is reminiscent of Apple's build quality. It looks absolutely gorgeous in the marketing video. We have yet to come across a traditional netbook that sports the same level of attention to details.
