Flurry, a company based in San Francisco which provides analytics for mobile devices, has uncovered evidence of the existence of Apple's forthcoming tablet PC, a few days before the secretive product is revealed at the the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
According to a blog post on the company's website yesterday, it has managed to locate 50 such devices that matched the characteristics of Apple's iPad and not surprisingly, it seems that all are located physically on Apple's campus in Cupertino, California.
The devices were running iPhone OS 3.2 rather than iPhone 4.0 which Flurry interprets as a definite sign of the existence of the iPad and cannot be attributed to any soon-to-be-released iPhones. Other iPhone devices using OS 4.0 have already been tracked previously outside Apple's campus.
Flurry also provides with some very interesting details about the kind of applications that the testers tried. Around 150 Gaming apps were downloaded and launched, with roughly 65 Entertainment and an equivalent number of news and books apps.
Surprisingly, photography and finance had 10 downloaded and tested apps each. This means two things (a) that the iPad is likely to have a camera and (b) the larger screen makes it ideal to view large amounts of data (secondary screen maybe?).
