Virgin Media has been named as the UK’s fastest broadband service provider by a notable margin, as per the latest stats unleashed by the internet comparison website Broadband.co.uk.
The website, which claims to have tested thousands of real-world internet connections across the country on monthly basis, has reported around 22 percent rise in the country’s broadband speeds for the year 2009, up from 3.67mbps in December 2008 to 4.48mbps in December 2009.
In terms of speed figures, Virgin Media’s average connection speeds of 7.426mbps aced its rivals by substantive margin, surpassing Be Broadband and O2, which share a common network infrastructure. Both the companies shared the second spot with average broadband speeds of 5.143mbps.
Edd Dawson, editor of the website said: "The providers that show stagnation are those which have not rolled out new, higher-speed products during the past year. We will watch with interest as to how they respond to competition over the course of 2010."
Meanwhile, in a distinct report from another website ISPreview.co.uk, Virgin Media has been ranked among the top companies in the UK that will provide an optimum balance of price and performance this year.
The company has been listed alongside competitors like Sky, O2 and Be Broadband as the top broadband providers for this year. The website is claiming that owing to a robust performance history of its cable networks, Virgin Media seems well placed to offer its customers broadband speeds of up to 50mbps depending upon their location.
