HTC Desire Unveiled, A Better Nexus One?

HTC has let out yet another Android-based smartphone, this time it is Desire, formerly known as Bravo and unofficially known as the Nexus 2 although some might say that apart from the specifications, there's not much resemblance between it and the Google phone.

You still get HTC's slightly thicker chassis (compared to the Nexus One), a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB ROM (but only 256MB RAM), microSD slot, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.

As for the other differences, there's an optical touchpad rather than a trackball, HTC's Sense UI, proper physical buttons instead of touch sensitive ones and the "helicopter view" which was also rolled out on the HTC Legend. 

Also bundled in is the new Android 2.1 with Multitouch, Flash lite 4, an FM Radio, better email management and the Friendstream social feature.

Pocket-lint says that Vodafone is likely to be the first to launch the HTC Desire in the UK, scoring a nice double since the Nexus One will also be on there. But other operators are also likely to stock the Desire in due time with a rumoured launch date of 29th March.
