Android-based Desire, the HTC smartphone that's a twin to Google's Nexus One, has popped up for sale at an authorised third-party mobile contract phone retailer and will cost as little as £30 per month.
Mobilephonesdirect, which also runs some of Nokia retail "brick and mortar" stores, has the device on Vodafone and T-Mobile for now and says that it will be available from the 1st of April.
Prospective Customers will pay a minimum of £30 per month on 18 or 24 months contracts with total cost of ownership at £540 and £720 respectively.
The most attractive two-year offer - on T-Mobile - is a 900 minutes per month, 500 texts and unlimited mobile web plus £40 free accessories and 3 months free insurance
For those looking for a shorter, 18 month contract, there's a 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet with £40 free accessories and 3 months free insurance, again from T-Mobile.
Last but not least, Vodafone has a 12-month contract with 700 minutes, 250 texts and unlimited mobile web for £523.99, a price that includes the initial outlay of £43.99 for the phone.
Given that the phone on its own is currently on pre-order at Expansys for £450, Vodafone and T-Mobile have rolled out some exceptionally good deals.
All major UK Networks - including 3 Networks - have confirmed that they will be shipping the Android-based smartphone and we even believe that it is better than the Nexus One.
Our Comments
The HTC Desire has only been officially presented earlier this week during the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona and has already garnered a number of rave previews, mainly because it is based on the same specifications as the award winning Nexus One.
