Internet & Google Make People Smarter Say Panel of Experts
According to an internet research report released on Friday, several experts, including scientists, doctors and developers, strongly believe that the internet is having a positive impact on the human brain and the next ten years, internet will make people smarter.
The results of the study were concluded by a survey conducted by the Imagining the Internet Center at the Elon University and the Pew Internet and American Life project.
Associate Professor Janna Anderson, director of the Imagining the Internet Center, said that the survey involved an optional online survey which was taken by 895 web users, including doctors, developer and scientists, of which 371 respondents were considered experts.
The results of the survey indicated that 81 percent of the people believed that web sites like Google and Wikipedia are making people smarter and will result in IQ growth in the next 10 years.
However, 16 percent said that dependency on Google was making people dumber while 4 percent choose to keep their opinions to their selves.
The study was conducted following an article written by tech expert Nicholas Carr in the summer of 2009, titled ‘Is Google Making Us Stupid?’.
The article, which was covered in Atlantic Monthly, debated whether people’s brain and IQ were affected by search engine Google, which allows people to effortlessly look for anything they need and want without exercising their brain so much.
