Samsung To Launch 3D LED TV In UK In March 2010

Samsung says that it will be the first consumer electronics firm to launch a full HD LED-backlit 3D television set in Europe, with the release month likely to be March 2010.

Three versions will go on sale over the forthcoming weeks, the C7000, C8000 and C9000 with the smallest available size being 40-inch. They will all feature Samsung's proprietary 200Hz processors.

The South Korean chaebol also debut a 3D Blu-ray player, the BD-C6900 although it is still unclear whether there will be 3D material available at launch to accompany the player.

Interestingly, a few months down the road, Samsung will release 3D Plasma TV sets which shows that affordable large screen formats still belong, in the short term, to the plasma format.

Samsung has also confirmed that all 3D models will come with an Ethernet port and will have a USB port where users can plug a dongle to give it wireless capabilities.

As a bonus, they will all feature single Freeview HD tuners, a sneaky way for Samsung to provide more value added features to the product. That said, should you buy your TV set on its own, you shall need to buy 3D glasses separately.

Talking to Which? magazine, a spokesperson said that users will need active shutter 3D glasses which will need to be powered by a small battery and comes in adult or child versions.
