Google Inc. has announced that the company will soon be offering web applications, via a brand new online marketplace developed specially for businesses by third-party software developers.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that according to people briefed by the company, Google plans to launch an online marketplace which will allow businesses to purchase applications designed specifically to their needs.
This announcement made by Google indicates that the company is looking to carve a niche for its Google Apps service in the lucrative online web application market by allowing third party developers to create and sell business application for its platforms.
Google already has a web application store called Solutions Marketplace but according the Wall Street Journal article, Google will revamp its marketplace and dish it out some time in March.
Commenting on the soon-to-be-launched business software store, a Google spokesperson said that the company is “constantly working with our partners to deliver more solutions to businesses, but we have nothing to announce at this time.”
Google offers a software suite for businesses at the rate of $50 per user per annum and has Motorola and Genetech as some of its high profile clients.
