Microsoft To Give Office 2010 For Free With Office 2007?
An untimely post on the company’s US Partner Community portal has accidentally divulged details, though for a short period only, about Microsoft’s promotional tactics for its forthcoming Office 2010 suite, according to the reports.
Ars Technica dug out the details of the premature post from Google’s cache after it was pulled down after a short presence on the web.
The post on “In The Know - Charles Van Heusen's Weblog” comprised details of “Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee Programme”, which stated that the customers who would purchase copies of Windows 2007 after 5 March and before 30 September would be entitled for a free upgrade to Office 2010 after it is issued in June 2010.
The customers would be able to upgrade through a DVD or a download, provided that they install and activate Office 2007 by the end of September, and apply for the Office 2010 upgrade by 31st October. Customers looking for upgrade would just need to present Office 2007 Product Key, along with a dated sales receipt, the report added.
Apparently, Microsoft was looking to inform its partners about the proposed offer in advance, but it was inadvertently posted for the general public.
The company isn’t seemingly ready to announce the scheme yet. Ars Technica quoted a Microsoft spokesperson as saying, “Microsoft has not disclosed an Office 2010 Technology Guarantee. We have no further comment at this time.”
