Sprint Launches HTC 4G Evo Super Smartphone

Sprint has unveiled the HTC Evo 4G which is the operator's first smartphone that supports WiMax technology at the current CTIA 2010 event in Las Vegas.

The handset, which will be available this forthcoming summer, shares some similarities with another HTC handset, the HD2.

Like the former, it comes with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, WiFi and the usual array of ports and communication features.

The screen - which is almost certainly an AMOLED model rather than a Super AMOLED one - is not only 30 percent bigger than the iPhone's 3.5-incher but also packs more than twice the number of pixels making it ideal for video viewing and multi tab internet browsing.

The Evo 4G - was formerly known as the HTC Supersonic - comes with Google's Android platform instead of Windows Mobile and swaps the camera sensor of the HD2 for a much more impressive 8-megapixel model with two flashes.

It also has a 1.3-megapixel forward facing webcam, 1GB ROM and 512MB RAM and is powered by a 1500mAh Lithium Ion battery. No exact release dates or pricing have been revealed.

Interestingly, it can also be used as an 8-slot 4G hotspot to which other devices will connect. More importantly for us, HTC hasn't said whether or not it will release this updated HD2 outside the US for now.
