Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Unofficial ROM Released

Android 2.2, codenamed Froyo, has been made available for Samsung's Galaxy S smartphone by way of an unofficial ROM or firmware update.

The Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S is said to be stable, but still contains a few bugs including crashes, freezing while browsing the internet, and non-working camera flash. The software comes with a note warning the users to install the ROM at their own risk.

The upgrade is said to be an actual test build of Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S.

Samsung has said it will be releasing the official Android 2.2 OS update for the Galaxy S in September, so users who do not wish to risk damaging their handsets by installing the unofficial version won't have too long to wait for the official release.

Italian tech site HDBlog posted a video reporting that the Android 2.2 ROM enhances the performance and responsiveness of the smartphone.
