3G or Third Generation Wireless systems refers to the developments of the wireless technology, especially in the area of mobile communications. The first generation of mobile technology used a analog voice signaling and the second generation, presently in use, like the CDMA, TDMA, GSM.

The second generation offered digital voice encoding, increased bandwidth, packet routing and the newer devices even offer multimedia capabilities to the device. The 3G enhances the 2G devices and offers a lot of new features like enhanced multimedia features, broadband connectivity, better routing flexibility and even offers better roaming facility than that of the 2G devices.
