  • Windows 7 Sales "Fantastic" Says Ballmer

23 November, 2009, by Desire Athow

Microsoft’s outspoken CEO Steve Ballmer was at his enthusiastic best as he spoke on Windows 7 sales and claimed that the company’s latest operating system upgrade has been outshining the sales of any of other flavours of Windows, including its not-so-popular Vista, by a significant margin.

In Microsoft’s annual Professional Developers conference, Ballmer tried to instill confidence in its shareholders by hailing the sales of Windows 7, which according to him, were ahead of its predecessor Windows Vista sales by a ratio of 2-to-1.

Speaking about the remarkable sales, he said, "Since launch, we’ve already sold twice as many units of Windows 7 than any other operating system we’ve ever launched in a comparable time".

He touted the sales of Windows 7 as "fantastic", but didn’t speak about the exact numbers. However, the Wall Street Journal cited that the count was around 40 million copies since its launch on 22 October.

"Windows 7 is the simply best PC operating system we have ever built. It enables people to do more of what they want to do more easily and more quickly, and customers are responding", Ballmer extolled.

Research analytics firm Net Applications further corroborated Ballmer’s statement by revealing that Windows 7 accounted for 4 percent of total internet accessing devices, a landmark that Vista took seven months to achieve.
