Sophos stops unknown threats before they execute

Normally I'm highly skeptical about bold claims over new products and services, but Sophos' Behavioural Genotype Protection (BGP) technology sounds like the dogs dangly bits.

GBP, the IT security veteran claims, is central to its Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS), which is billed as blocking nasty programs before they get a chance to execute.

The good news is that the technology is being incorporated into all of Sophos' anti-virus products and services.

This is excellent, as high-level anti-malware technology from competing firms is often limited to major corporate systems.

Anyway, I better not heap too much praise on the firm, otherwise Graham Cluley, Sophos' senior technology consultant, will start preening himself. Only joking Graham....
