Data Warehousing

Similar to a warehouse which is a repository for goods, a data warehouse is a central repository of significant parts of data an enterprise collects in various departments and sections.

A data warehouse is usually housed on a mainframe or a server in the company and the data from various processing applications and other sources is selectively retrieved and organized in the data warehouse database for use by analytical applications and user queries. This is more useful for analysis and access, by the company and is not related the customers or employee databases.
