Chatting with a few pals at the Infosecurity Europe show in London this week, I've been able to gather a few snippets of info about the new PINsentry device that Barclays is busy sending its e-banking customers.
It seems that the design for the unit, which is being manufactured by Gemalto for Barclays, comes from APACS and is actually a variant on the existing EMV PIN check/read standard.
Put simply, this means that other banks and card issuers' cards should be compliant with PINsentry allowing the unit to be used for other e- banking and online security applications.
Now that is really interesting. I wonder if APACS have some plans up their sleeves?
(Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one - snigger...)
