Latest social networking site launches in the UK

Hamburg based Qype.com, a recommendation portal, is the latest addition to the UK’s growing ‘u’ review culture. The site was selected by Red Herring as one of the 100 sites to watch for 2007 and has already established a significant market leading presence in its home market since its *launch in the summer of 2006.

Founding CEO Stephan Uhrenbacher is a veteran of Europe’s online community. He has worked with media giants G + J and Bild, is a former MD of Lastminute.com’s northern Europe business, spent time working with DocMorris, Europe’s largest online pharmacy and was most recently Opodo’s commercial director, prior to setting up Qype.

Former Red Letter Days and Opodo European Marketing Director Isabelle Ratinaud is the Company’s interim UK Managing Director, with responsibility for launching the business in the UK.

The company has also brought in Kudos Integrated to help it establish a presence amongst the UK’s online community. The agency will be seeking to develop long term affinity and promotional relationships with suitable media partners and other brands.

*Qype launched in Germany in the summer of 2006 and currently has around 50,000 reviews and more than 12,000 contributors.
