Fast, flexible and easy to set up are just three characteristics of the new DES-1008P Power over Ethernet (PoE) Switch, launched today by D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business. Developed for home and office users, the DES-1008P PoE Switch provides an easy way to connect and supply power to PoE devices such as wireless Access Points (AP), IP cameras and IP phones.
As a switch, the DES-1008P can also be used to add computers, printers, Network Attached Storage (NAS) and any Ethernet device onto a network, and can also be used to create a multi-player gaming environment. Built with home and small business users in mind, this compact PoE switch operates quietly, making it ideal for use in virtually any room or office. In addition, this device can be wall-mounted so that it does not take up any desktop real estate (wall mounting kit included).
Four out of the eight ports on the DES-1008P support the IEEE 802.3af standard for PoE. Each of these ports can supply up to 15.4W, up to a total PoE budget of 56W, allowing users to attach IEEE 802.3af-compliant devices without requiring an additional power source. This eliminates the need of having to place networking devices within close proximity of a power outlet and minimises cable clutter in awkward places such as ceilings or walls.
This entry-level switch is completely unmanaged, so no configuration is required and installation is quick and easy. Support for auto-MDI/MDI-X on all ports eliminates the need for crossover cables for connection to another switch or hub. Auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance.
“The DES-1008P extends D-Link’s impressive range of scalable PoE switches, which cater for VoIP and WLAN users – without the hassle of additional power adapters, cords or AC outlets” said Andrew Mulholland, UK Marketing Manager, D-Link. “As well as being very simple to set-up, the DES-1008P provides a cost-effective entry-level solution for small businesses wishing to make the most of their network."
