Microsoft has officially confirmed that some of its top lieutenants, Windows Vice President Mike Sievert, online services senior Vice President Steven Berkowitz, and Windows Mobile head Pieter Knook, are leaving the company for greener pastures.
Microsoft promoted 14 executives to fill the shoes of the leaving trio.
Knook is going to Vodafone where he will head Vodafone's new Internet Services Division, Sievert will start a new company and Berkovitz has yet to release plans about his future.
The three departures herald a new era as Microsoft focuses on Mobile computing, Online services and Desktop bound applications to maintain its revenues streams.
A spokesman said that the departures are not linked to Microsoft's bidding for Yahoo although the departure of Knook might be related to Microsoft's recent acquisition of Mobile Platform specialist, Danger.
