Six months after the initial Asus EEE was released, Asus is getting ready to release its successor; the EEE PC 900 laptop sports some really great features but will come at a price - £329 including VAT.
Two versions of the laptop will be available, one with Windows XP and the other with Linux; although both share the same price, the Windows XP version will have a 12GB SSD hard drive whereas the Linux version will have a 20GB one.
The screen size will increase to 8.9-inch, allowing it to display 1024x600 pixels, 63 percent more than in the previous version and there's an iPhone-inspired multi-touch touchpad in there as well
The original 900MHz Intel Celeron processor will be retained along with 1GB RAM, a 1.3MP camcorder and a 4-cell battery which can lasts for 2.5 hours (ed : I am a little bit dubious about this claim, 4-cell batteries last no more than 1 hour on traditional laptops)
Everything else remains the same including the enclosure size, the total weight of the machine and most importantly the two years UK collect and return warranty.
The laptop is scheduled to go on sale on the 1st of May alongside a Windows-XP based Asus EEE based on the original specs.
The price though could prove to be a major stumbling block; the Dell Vostro 1000 laptop which comes with a more powerful processor, a bigger screen, an optical drive and a 120GB hard disk drive costs only £258 delivered.
