It seems that the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which is suing AT&T over the carrier's involvement in the US government's warrantless wiretapping program, is even angrier about the proposed replacement rogram.
According to Kevin Bankston, the EFF's senior staff lawyer, the new proposed program is a "sham that's even worse than the original immunity provision passed by the (US) Senate."
What appears to have annoyed the EFF is the fact that the revised proposals effectively create a paper trail between various govt departments in the US, meaning that no-one will assume overall responsibility for the proposed changes.
Which, of course, means they will quietly slide into law without any one government department or official admitting responsibility for the legislation.
And you thought our democratic system was flawed...
