I'm indebted to the NZ Stuff site for reporting on a hoax email causing more than a little grief in New Zealand.
Apparently, a rogue email is being fired off to unsuspecting kiwis who are offered a free laptop, provided they forward the message on to at least eight people.
The email - purportedly from NZ electronics retailer Noel Leeming - offers punters an Ericsson T18 or R320 laptop if they forward the message on to, respectively, eight and 20 other punters.
But hang on a minute - those aren't laptop model numbers; they're actually ancient mobile phones!
All is revealed on the Urbanlegends.com Web site which says that the original hoax email - offering free mobiles - dates back to the year 2000.
