Interesting to see that Lloyds-TSB has started extending its useful automated mini-statement facility for customers to include a text message every time your payment card is used outside of the UK.
As well as allowing punters to use their mobiles to move money around, the Lloyds-TSB Mobile Services facility allows punters to check their balances, get a mini-statement and receive a wide range of text alerts.
The first two services are almost certainly tied into the banks' Monilink family of services, which the UK banks have developed in concert with the Link banking consortium, but I really like the text alert service idea.
The new Overseas Transaction Alert generates a text message if a punter's debit debit card is used to withdraw cash from a cashpoint or to make a purchase abroad.
The only question, of course, is how much the bank will charge for this really useful service...
