German manufacturer Medion has unveiled its latest high end, super fast desktop replacement laptop, the Akoya P8610 laptop which should cost around £800.
The main attraction of the P8610 is its huge LCD screen; a large 18.4-inch one capable of displaying 1680x945 pixels in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, perfect to watch high resolution programmes.
The sound subsystem is also worthy of mention as it supports Dolby Home Theater and apparently boost the audio capabilities of the laptop substantially even if you are using a 2.1 or headphones.
Other hardware specifications include a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4GB RAM, a 320GB hard disk drive, a Blu-ray reader, a dedicated Geforce 9600M GS GPU, a built-in Freeview Tuner with remote control, a full size keyboard as well as an HDMI port.
It is worth pointing that the P8610 - which was announced back in August - uses Hybrid SLI and Hybrid Power which aims at reducing power consumption when doing light tasks (like surfing the web or doing word processing).
The laptop - which won't be getting any awards for design - will come with a few accessories as well like a USB mouse, Windows Home Premium and a laptop bag.
It is not on sale yet at Medion (or indeed other usual retailers like Aldi, Tesco or Blockbuster) but should be available before Christmas.
How does it compare to the competition? Well, the Acer 8930G at £800 is its exact replica - both pricewise and specwise.
