The online marketplace for iPhone and iPod applications, dubbed as “Apple App Store”, scaled new heights by reaching the 500 million downloads mark and apparently the holiday season played a major role in achieving this impressive download figure for the company.
The company said in a statement, “There are more than 15,000 apps in the App Store, and so far iPhone users have downloaded an incredible 500 million, in every category, from games to business”.
Apple went on to say that applications designed for its blockbuster iPhone are truly amazing, as they power the device with cutting edge technologies, such as the accelerometer, multi-touch interface, dynamic 3D graphics, along with 3D positional audio, GPS, to name a few.
In addition, the easy accessibility of the applications also helped Apple achieving this commendable download count, as the App Store can be accessed over Wi-Fi and cellular networks that enable users to download their favourite application right on their devices.
Both paid and free applications can be downloaded through the Apps Store, with the users are also notified about the available updates for the applications stored on their handset.
