We all know that the poor old auditors often get a bad press. But honestly, your auditor is not your enemy. In fact, with a little forethought he or she can be one of your most important allies when it comes to testing your business continuity planning.
It may go against the grain but why not make use of this valuable resource? Get them involved in reviewing your organisation’s business continuity plans and strategies and validating the underlying assumptions.
Ask them to observe your recovery exercises. Then enlist their help in reporting on and following up any problem areas. You will almost certainly get more cooperation from your colleagues if the auditors are involved with the than you will without them!
Your auditor’s skills are often well suited to this type of analysis so why not make best use of them?
