More Samsung Android Smartphones Emerge, Powered By Android 2.0 Donut

Samsung appears to be heavily betting on Android as pictures and specifications emerged of the manufacturer's next Android smartphone together with hints about the next version of Android.

Russian website, Mobile-review, says that Samsung will release Bigfoot and Spica, two Android smartphones, in Q3 2009 with both of them having very similar specifications.

Bigfoot appears to be a model with a slide out keyboard, similar to a model Motorola presented, complete with a 3-inch TFT LCD, a 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and a 1500mAh battery.

Internal memory is limited to 100MB but you do have access to a microSD card reader. As far as connectivity is concerned, you get the full monty including GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5G and more.

As for Spica, it is similar in size and shape with Samsung's i8500 Android smartphone that is set to be released fairly soon; but as far as specifications are concerned, it will be aimed at a more mainstream market.

But the most interesting point is the fact that the phone will be powered by Android Donut, the successor to Cupcake, which was version 1.5. At this rate, Croissant and Gateau will be launched around Christmas 2009 and in March 2010.

Android 2.0 is likely to be the one on which most other vendors - Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Acer - will be shipping their mobile phones with. Google seems to be increasing the pace at which the platform is being developed. Samsung has also signalled its intention to use its own Touchwiz interface to differentiate its mobile phones from others.
