As expected, Orange has announced that it will be selling Toshiba's comeback smartphone, the TG01, in the UK and underlined the fact that it had the exclusivity for an undetermined period.
The smartphone was simultaneously released across the Channel in France where Orange is headquartered. Toshiba's smartphone, the first in a long time, comes with a number of revolutionary features.
It has a 4.1-inch touchscreen which can display a resolution of 800x480 pixels, far greater than other smartphones on the market. It also sports a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, the fastest in a mainstream handset, and comes in a body only 9mm thick, significantly thinner than the iPhone 3GS. It comes with a 8GB memory card which can be upgraded to 32GB.
The phone, which first came to light at the beginning of the year, runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 pro for now and provides with a rather peculiar user interface that uses three stripes to navigate around.
The TG01 will be available for free on selected contracts, starting from £39.15 per month on a 24 month price plan. This will include 1200 minutes worth of calls, unlimited texts, Orange maps and inclusive anytime internet browsing - in Orange Lingo, that's roughly 500MB data transfer.

Orange is also getting the extremely interesting but ultimately unpractical LG watchphone that's worth more than an iPhone 3GS. The LG01 will be available in Switzerland, Romania and Poland later this year.
