The battle of current generation gaming consoles is set to continue over the next few weeks as fresh price cuts and gaming bundles encourage punters to splash on an Xbox 360 or a Playstation console.
The Xbox 360 seems to have taken an early lead if MCV is to be believed. Chartrack, the organisation that monitors sales of music, videos and software through retail in the UK and Ireland, told MCV that that sales of the Xbox 360 Elite increased by 43 percent week-on-week.
Charttrack did not reveal whether the Xbox Pro and the Xbox Arcade gaming consoles also saw any significant uptake or fall but warned that UK would probably not see " serious and consistent increase in weekly hardware sales" until next month. The entity also reports that PS3 sales in the UK have fallen by as much as 20 percent.
Furthermore, in what seems to be a sign of things to come, Bestbuy says that the PS3 Slim has been the best selling gaming platform last week, followed by the 80GB and the 160GB model, fuelled by the significant price discounts Sony applied to the PS3 family.
Both Amazon US and UK rank the Playstation 3 Slim as their most popular console; in fact, it currently outsells the Nintendo Wii with the Xbox 360 Elite coming far behind.
Sales of PS3 Slim in Japan and UK have apparently fallen significantly ahead of the release of the PS3 Slim. Many retailers including Dixons, HMV, Game were out of stock on the original PS3 as the console's price was slashed. Expect the PS3 to surpass Xbox 360 sales figures by next week.
