Wolfram Alpha Launches £30 iPhone Search App

Leading computation engine Wolfram Alpha has unveiled a new iPhone app which it claims offers expert level answers and clean visualizations for search queries.

Wolfram Alpha is offering the new app for £29.99 for subscribers in UK and believes that it will find takers amongst the research community and students who prefer detailed information and including statistical information.

Incidentally Wolfram Alpha delivers correlated information in response to search queries and greatly differs from normal semantic based search engines which just generate a bunch of results.

Explaining the application of the new app, the company mentions "The breakthrough technology of Wolfram Alpha for the first time lets you get expert-level answers to your specific free-form questions, complete with visualisations and tables, and richer and deeper information that you imagined possible."

Though the new iPhone app may have its advantages, many experts believe that the new app may find very few takers in the market owing to its surprisingly high cost.

Also the fact that one can find the same information from its website for free will prevent users from purchasing the app at its current listed price which puts it amongst the most costly apps available in the iPhone app store.

Some cynics might say that Wolfram Alpha has a lot of scientists and mathematicians but not many good marketing guys. Selling a £30 app to an audience who might as well go to the search engine's website is not a smart move.
