Two Thirds Of Brits Go Online On Holidays

If findings of a recent survey are to be believed, around 66 percent of Britons would prefer spending their holiday time online rather than spend it with their loved ones.

The findings of the study conducted by BT and VisitBritain covered 500 people and have revealed that most people would prefer visiting social networking sites and surfing the internet than enjoying time with their friends.

Nearly 37 percent of people surveyed would opt to take their laptops on a holiday rather than Wellington boots (ed: laptops won't prevent you from being drenched though, soggy stockings anyone?).

The surprising findings come across as an yet another pointer to how our lives have been affected by technology and a large number of people today cannot even possibly fathom spending few days without access to the internet.

Some social analysts even labelling the internet as the oxygen for the youth without which they start feeling suffocated.

Many believe that the increasing addiction to the internet today is even affecting relationships as people become more focused on the virtual world than their real world.

More importantly, the craze for being online is not limited to the young with the survey revealing that around 89 percent people in the age group of 50 plus surf the internet on holidays to find out places of their interest.

Certainly not a surprise for those of us who spend more than 12 hours a day on a laptop or a computer at work. Disconnecting is difficult and the fact that smartphones now come with always-on access makes it even more inescapable to turn off the web whilst on holidays or at home trying to chill out.
