3M has released its Ergonomic Wireless Optical Mouse which the company suggests can help reduce the discomfort associated with carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injury.
Slaving away in front to of a computer for hours on end can cause serious injuries, and we should know. 3M says that this new mouse/joystick hybrid has been cinically proven to prevent RSI and carpal tunnel, but you might just die of a heart attack when you see the price.
It weighs in at around £145 which some might consider a small price to pay when you take into account that the cost of RSI injuries to UK industry is estimated at between £5 and £20 billion.
The device looks like an old school gaming joystick bu actually tracks around the desktop like a conventional mouse. Apparently the trick is all in the wrist, because the mouse forces you to use your whole arm.
Left and right click buttons and a scrolling thingy are all included, and the mousestick, as we have decided to call it, works with Windows XP and up as well as Mac OSX 10.5 or better.
