Two arrested for memory secret theft

Two executives from US semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials Inc have been arrested in Seoul, on charges they stole secret Samsung technology details and passed them on to rival Hynix.

Local reports have it that the pair were arrested in connection with information that was passed to Hynix between March 2005 and December 2009.

The information included manufacturing details for DRAM and NAND flash memory and strategic investment information.

The Korea Herald named one of the men by the surnamed Kwak. It is no clear if he is singing like a bird.

His associate, a Mr Han was accused of receiving the stolen information.

It seems, "business partners like equipment companies have had relatively easy access to [memory makers'] trade secrets," a prosecutor said.
