If you feel like you don't get enough of President Barak Obama's whitterings, or you want to keep up with the latest press briefings from the White House, you can now pretend you are living in an episode of The West Wing live on your iPhone.
The White House App will turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a hotline to the Long-Legged Mack Daddy, with videos pictures and video of live events beamed straight from Washington to your local boozer, or wherever you happen to be. Coincidentally, the above link will also let you check out the new in-browser App Store preview facility, which is rather good if you're using a computer which doesn't have iTunes installed.
The free App, which is available through iTunes, will be seen as a cynical marketing tool trying to indoctrinate the minds of a generation of slack-jawed teens hooked on digital media by some, and as a step towards open democracy and political transparency by others.
We, on the other hand, reckon its a nicely built little App which could teach most bedroom developers a thing or two about design and functionality. We'd also like to know how they manage to stream video at such fantastic quality. We suppose if the incumbent administration of the richest country on earth can't put together a decent internet connection, no-one can.
