Billing and multichannel self-care technology services provider, Convergys, and software giant Microsoft have announced a partnership in which the two companies plan to jointly develop a software product targeted at communication services providers and utility companies.
The companies said at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona that the technology developed from the partnership will be based on Microsoft's Dynamics CRM and SQL Server 2008 R2 while Convergys business support technology will offer Convergys Smart Communications Suite for an improved customer experience.
In an official joint statement released by the companies, it was reported that the software will be designed to be scalable and interoperable with existing infrastructures and it will work with third party applications along with several other deployment models.
The companies also added that the user interface will be designed to benefit call center agents by reducing call-handling times and better consumer services.
Commenting on the alliance with one of the biggest customer relations service providers, Austen Mulinder, corporate vice president of Communications Sector at Microsoft, said in a statement that “Our relationship signals greater choice for service providers looking for a more agile, cost-efficient platform that can support the delivery of the next wave of differentiated services.”
This strategic partnership could pave the way for a potential acquistion of Convergys by Microsoft which might explain the significant bump in the share price of the company. Oh and Oracle will surely take note of the arrival of yet another competitor.
