Firm pins disaster data on Amazon elastic

UK disaster recovery outfit Double-Take has teamed up with Amazon to offer a new cloud-based disaster recovery product, Double-Take Cloud.

Using Amazon Web Services' Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to create a real-time workload recovery platform, the new service promises to get companies up and running after a server failure within hours rather than days, complete with all recently saved data.

The service uses a system state replication engine which allows customers to recover data, applications and operating systems online.

Double-Take boss Dean Goodermote said, "Our integration with Amazon Web Services provides customers with a new and innovative way to access the best disaster recovery technology and take advantage of what AWS cloud has to offer: low start-up and management costs, ease of use, and the ability to scale resources as needed."

The company says the service allows users to pay only for the space and capacity they use, is fast, requires no additional equipment and can be used by those with 'moderate technical skills'.
