Sky TV and mobile phone giant Nokia have announced a deal in which Nokia mobile phone owners will be able to watch Sky News and Sky Sports by downloading an application, which has been developed jointly by the companies, from the Ovi application store.
According to a joint statement released by the companies, the application is currently compatible with Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and Nokia 5530 as of now, but Nokia has promised that the application will be made available for other Nokia handsets including Nokia X6 and Nokia 5230.
Commenting on the Sky TV app for Nokia handsets, Rupert Englander, head of services marketing at Nokia UK said in a statement that “Modern lifestyles have driven demand for great mobile content and services on-the-go, and it's great to know that this app will make a real difference to Nokia users.”
The company plans to bring TV right into the handsets of people with the hope of initiating another mobile phone revolution, which ultimately lead to 3D mobile handsets.
However, for now, users will have to stay content with watching live news and sports games on their Nokia handsets.
In related news, Eurosport has launched its first iPhone app, offering users a chance to watch Vancouver Winter Olympic Games live on their smartphones.
