Mini iPad from Apple rumoured

Apple is planning to make a smaller tablet device which would sit neatly between the iPod Touch and the iPad, according to an overactive rumour mill.

Occasionally-accurate Taipei electronics industry mole-tamer Digitimes reckons that Apple is snapping up components which point at a device with a screen size somewhere between five and seven inches.

It seems that the 'upstream component sources' know more about Apple's plans than most as they insist the device will be priced at under $400 and will be aimed at people who focus mainly on reading and don't have much use for prodding away at a tiny on-screen keyboard to input text.

The new device will arrive as soon as the first quarter of 2011, according to the prediction.
