Apple in talks with AMD over new CPUs

Apple has been courting AMD in a move which could possibly see Intel's stranglehold over the Mac platform ending according to reports.

Apple Insider says its spies have spotted AMD top brass attending meetings at the Cupertino Campus and that the chipmaker has supplied the Apple R&D labs with new CPUs which could soon appear in both workstation and portable Macs in the near future.

Apple has recently encountered supply problems with Intel unable to deliver enough CPUs to keep its Chinese manufacturing lines running at a speed fast enough to meet demand.

Apple is also reported to be less than happy with Intel's policy of trying to exclude Nvidia from the Apple party by insisting on using its own on-board graphics chipsets.
