Yahoo has hinted at plans to acquire smaller technology start-ups, including location-based networking site Foursquare.
At her first ever press conference in Europe to announce a deal to show highlights of Premier League football, CEO Carol Bartz, who took over the web giant during the recession, said the company was definitely looking to acquire smaller companies to expand its user base. She refused to comment on the finer points of the company's acquisition road map.
The internet company, which recently struck a search deal with Microsoft, plans to focus on Bartz's motto of 'combining the world of the Yahoo user with the rest of the world' by personalising the Yahoo homepage according to users' interests - incorporating content and services from new acquisitions.
Speaking amid speculation as to Yahoo's financial standing, Bartz added that Yahoo was undergoing a recovery, and that innovations would follow as soon as possible, referring to the hibernation Apple underwent to reach its current level of success.
