Iomega has released a new NAS-SAN based storage system for the unified storage business market.
The EMC subsidiary has released its new StorCenter ix12-300r with small- to medium-sized companies in mind. Prices start at $5,000 for 4TB of storage.
The StorCenter ix12-300r comes in the form of a 2U rack mount, capable of storing up to 24TB and will support almost 250 business users.
Jay Krone, senior director of EMC’s Consumer and Small Products division, told http://www.crn.com/storage/224700693 CRN that "Using V-LAN, customers can set certain people or departments up with their own virtual network, making networking resources more efficient."
Because the new storage system is targeted at SMB data systems, Krone explained that the ix12-300r would come with hot-swap hard drives, dual hot-swap power supplies and hot-swap fans.
The StorCenter ix12-300r boasts a host of features including disk-to-disk backup and management capabilities specific to particular applications such as Microsoft Exchange.
The storage system will also provide shared storage for a wide range of virtual environments, including Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and VMware vSphere.
