Online betting portal Betfair has released the first gambling application for the iPhone. The new application will allow sports fans in the UK and Ireland to place bets from their iPhones.
The application is the first gambling app to be included in Apple's iTunes App Store. The company not put any gambling applications up for download in the US because of a ban on e-gaming.
Charles Palmer, head of the mobile department at Betfair, told eGaming Review that “There were no terms and conditions about gambling. We approached Apple with the proposal and our app, showing it does the normal KYC and age verification.”
Palmer states that the application, which uses Betfair's Exchange system, comes with a GPS function that allows users to place bets when they are in UK and Ireland, but not from any where else in the world.
The application is a part of Betfair's plans to take its gaming business to into the world of mobile technology.
