Buying An iPad? Use The Apple Locator But Still No App

A source deep inside Apple UK told us how to find out exactly where the iPad has been stocked at launch. Obviously with significant stock fluctuations, the tool can and should only be used as a first step; then use your phone to call the stores and find out whether the iPad is in stock.

Use the Apple locator (opens in new tab) and select "buy an iPad" from the drop down menu and your post code or down in the "you are situated in" field. The locator even goes all the way to Mauritius as well as dozen of other countries (not all of them selling iPads though).

The resulting page looks the one below. The irony is that Apple is using Google technology to display the results combined with GeoCMS, a GEO Content Management Solution.

This allows you to determine what stores are available within a set radius. Unfortunately, the search functionality is not available on the iPhone (or the iPad 3G) and there's no "buy an iPad" app. This means that you won't have to print any maps.

ITProPortal has also launched a contest inviting prospective and current iPad owners to get up to £500 worth of iPad accessories (including iPad Apps and Apple iTunes Credit) simply by submitting the list of accessories they'd like to have. Simples!!
