Sky Launches £35 Per Month iPad App

Sky has rolled out an iPad application that allows viewers to watch live TV sports for a jaw-dropping £35 per month, this compares very badly with the £6 per month that the satellite broadcaster is charging for the same Sky Mobile TV App.

The app itself is free but you will need to be either a Sky TV or a Sky player customer to be able to access it; Sky Sports access will require a Sky Sports package altogether. Otherwise, you will be charged the full £35.

The new service will also feature a higher bitrate which will offer a much clearer picture which will almost match High Definition quality. So much so that Sky reckons that users may choose to swap their TV sets for their iPad instead.

Sky’s Director of Mobile, Emma Lloyd, said in a statement that “No matter where you find yourself this summer, you’ll be able to keep up to date with the latest breaking news, Test match cricket, PGA golf and much more besides, with one subscription providing access across both iPhone and iPad”.

Those who are already on Sky Sports will be able to try it for 90 days for free while non subscribers may have a go for one month before the £35 charge kicks in. Interestingly the fact that the iPad doesn't currently support Flash means that many popular illegal sources of sports news will not be accessible.

The other fact is that Sky doesn't have the rights to broadcast the World Cup, which means that the iPad app is near useless if you want to watch the forthcoming World cup.

ITProPortal also launched a contest inviting prospective and current iPad owners to get up to £500 worth of iPad accessories (including iPad Apps and Apple iTunes Credit) simply by submitting the list of accessories they'd like to have. Simples!!
